Thursday, 25 October: Ciudad Del Carmen

We got on the road by 5:30am.  Our first stops were for water and cash.  Yes, we should have done that yesterday but we were shot.

We set our sites for Ciudad Del Carmen. It is ambitious but we are eager.

At mile marker 172 on 150D east of Puebla at 6:30am God was watching out for us. It was still dark; Justin was driving on the inside left lane. A small red car was only half way pulled off the road into the guardrail/ median. A huge truck was on his right so there was no place for him to go to avoid hitting one or both. We noted the time a location if we determined there was damage to our car later because at that moment, we kept driving. It was a stinking miracle that we weren’t delayed by the necessity of repairing the car or having to glue one of us back together. Thank you Lord.

We saw the temp climb to 93’ at its highest today and the best we saw in efficiency from La Perla was just over 58mpg.

For dinner we shared a spectacular stacked
 ceviche-like seafood medley.  Served with
tortillas, this was delightful!
I made our reservation for tonight at Azul Hotel and Restaurant in Cuidad Del Carmen. We stayed at this small hotel two years ago. The owner is Raj, an Indian guy who is quite interesting; the hotel is right on the beach.  The first night we were in Saltillo we stayed in a Sheraton and last night we stayed in our favorite hotel in Puebla, Villa Magnolias.  By booking places we’ve stayed before, we’ve really avoided typical Mexican hotels and the surprises and disappointments that come with them.  Tomorrow night we will be in Casa Colibri and if I am disappointed there, it is mine to fix it.
