Saturday, 18 November 2017: Guadalajara

We took time this morning to catch up on "stuff."  The car dealership called to inform us that the license plates are in; we are having those mailed to the hotel in Celestun.  I printed new insurance papers and worked on our blog while Justin looked at flights to costa Rico and to Havana.  We want to go to both places so we are starting to do our research.

Much later in the day, we took a cab to historic district in search of live music.  There was a concert going on in the square.  The crowd knew the band and the songs -- I sure didn't but my foot was tapping right along.  The music was rather raw techno pop and had a great brass section.  We found other music in our quest but surprisingly no mariachis.

Justin got his shoes shined while
 listening to the band

We are finding that taxi drivers don't always know where we are asking them to go. This is not a language barrier. Very different from London where the cabbies have to pass an extremely difficult test to be licensed.  Maybe we should register with Uber?

The Westin Hotel where we are staying is on Avenue de las Rosas. Doesn't that just sound beautiful? And it is. Justin and I really like Guadalajara -- we agree that this is our favorite place so far this year.  For Justin, that's a huge deal since this city is well over 4 million people.

Justin read that "Pachuco" was rated as one of the top ten restaurants in Guadalajara. We headed there for dinner. It was phenomenal. We had an appetizer and entrees and dessert. Each dish was unique and delicious. We started with a Mojito made with mezcal instead of the traditional rum. Next was totally tricked out tostada like dish made with seared tuna.  Our dessert was a symphony of chocolate and Bailey's flavored ice cream.  Phenomenal!
