Monday, 4 December 2107: Celestun

This evening we walked up on top of the house to watch the sunset.  Casa Maria has two kitchens,  five en suite bedrooms with closets and bathrooms, the owners suite has an attached sitting room.   The property is one block (less than 100 yds) off the beach with a guaranteed access to the beach.  We will have internet within a week or ten days...is that Mexican time?  We will also make arrangements to get drinking water delivered (within a week or two).  Peter has purchased a different property on which he plans to build.   If we bought this place he could open his restaurant here.   And if his restaurant was here, he'd live here too and that would take care of my concerns about an onsite caretaker.

Maria, the German lady who built the house, must have been something.  We've heard some stories about her excessive tequila intake and goodness knows she was nuts about the animals.  Even though the horse, the geese and the rabbits are gone, five dogs, seven cats and two pigs remain.  One of the pigs is 17 or 18 years old the other is maybe 12.  The probably weigh 300-500 pounds but how would you know?  Maria's son works in Berlin and will be here in March.  What to do?

The two other people living here are Poula and Abraham.  Poula, who is originally from Italy, spent a lot of time in Switzerland and in Thailand.  She is a cancer survivor of at least 15 years. Abraham is Mayan.  We met him last year when he was working at Hotel Gutierrez.  He was working there until yesterday; today was his first day here with us.

Abraham and Poula worked throughout the morning and went into town in early afternoon to run errands.  I scrubbed our bathroom and did a bit of laundry.  Justin started working in the gardens. By siesta time, we were shot.  I think if we did decide to purchase I'd like to name the rooms after flowers or plants rather than room numbers:  bougainvillea, coupe de champan, mimosa, azalea and another as yet to be determined but plants that we have on the grounds.  Maybe the owner's suite could be the Mariposa Room since there are dozens and dozens of butterflies on the property.  Celestun is in a preserve and the Monarch trail is here too.  Guess I need to do some research

Abraham went out with friends this evening.  Poula and Justin and I ordered pizza for dinner.  All three of us took turns in the jump seat keeping the dogs and cats out of the kitchen.  We to have quite a chore ahead.
Justin, Peter and Paula take time for an
afternoon beverage in the main kitchen..

Justin is enjoying working in the
gardens and with pot plants.
