After breakfast this morning, it was time to pack … on to Bangkok. After almost a month on the road, Justin and I agree that the Mountain and Sea has had the best bed and linens we’ve had so far. I hate to leave for that reason alone.
The ladies at the desk were super accommodating; they helped with numerous tuktuks, with laundry, with train information and today, thanks to their organizing, Santi, our driver, showed up at 1:00, after our late check out, to take us first to Kai Buri National Park, then onto Bangkok.
The park was only about an hour away and since the daily tours start about 2pm, we were right on time. When we were with Eddie a week or so ago, his quote of the day was “I am scary” when he was talking about monkeys. Santi’s quote today was “Find lucky” as we were heading off on our camera safari. We did indeed find lucky. Our first sight included two adults and a baby elephant. The second sighting was three adults and one baby elephant and then we just lost count. All in all, we saw about 50 wild elephants— adults, adolescents who mostly managed to stay within the shade provided by their protective mom, cows and bulls with massive tusks. All god’s creatures, great and small. They were simply magnificent.
We also saw about 15 gaurs (Indian bison) today. These guys are world’s largest wild cattle; they can stand over seven feet at the shoulder! Yes, they dwarf even my beloved Texas Longhorns. Fabulous!!!

Back in the car to Bangkok. We arrived about 10pm to check into Themongkol House. We are trying a hostel. This location promises to be really good and, so far, “hostel” means there is no elevator. We are on the third floor and the attendant at check in carried our suitcases upstairs. So far, so good.
