After a good bit of to-ing and fro-ing, we booked our flight and hotel for Chiang Mai. Justin really wanted to spend more time in National forests and I found an awesome hotel with bungalows floating on a lake toward the west, but logistics and our preferred northern progress won out. So, tomorrow to Chiang Mai.
First, today and Wat Pho, the reclining Buddha. This gold leaf statue is said to be the longest reclining Buddha in Thailand (46 meters). Just when you think you’ve seen enough Buddhas, you find you needed to see some more.

Next stop, a quick ferry ride to Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn. Built in the Khmer style, (it looks more Chinese to me) the spire is one of the tallest in Thailand. No, we weren’t there for sunrise but we were nearby for sunset. This temple was the most commercial of all the spots we’ve been so far. They had traditional Thai costumes both women and men could rent and then have a photographer follow you around for many, many shots. Some of these women were absolutely gorgeous. And the little kids in costume were so adorable.
Back across the Chao Phraya River. Just because the sun is down doesn’t mean the show is over; almost every day we are given the gift of an amazing sunset. I’m taking time to enjoy it and to share my gratitude. Dinner tonight, another Italian restaurant, A Fox Princess Kitchen. Even better than last night. We started with a lamb flatbread and French onion soup, then, Justin had mushroom truffle pasta again and I had a quinoa salad. We will get back to local food soon enough. This was a great treat.
