We were up early. Football for Justin but since I wasn’t into the game, I worked in paperwork. After breakfast, we were in our way to elephants. The Elephant Freedom Project rescues abused elephants. They have about 15 now, all female and they’ve been dining this a bit over 20 years. Many were used in the logging industry. Matamon, probably the oldest at 42, was a victim of a landmine. On our half day tour, we got to prepare food (bananas and sugar cane), feed the elephants, walk with them in the jungle and pet them as much as we wanted. They are simply majestic! We got to spend time with the mahouts. Each elephant had their own caretaker. This particular base provides housing for the mahout and their family. I thought our first elephant experience was great; this was just the best!!
