All in all, Maguay Villa Beach, Surat Thani on the Gulf of Thailand, was too secluded and not a good fit for us. We booked for six nights and when we checked in, we’d paid for three. Thankfully we had that flexibility. We ended up leaving after two nights leaving a bit of money on the table. Our departure was very hurried and a bit disorganized. Sou’s husband drove us to the station so we were on our way.
On a train in Thailand. We departed the station in Chaya at 9:27 and we arrived in Prachuat Khiri Khan about 1:30. Justin bought some chicken and rice and a vegetable dish from a vendor for our on-board snacks. When I asked him how much it cost, he explained “I gave him a pink one and he gave me back two green ones and a coin.” Well, that’s clearly about $3.00.
Easy check in at Mountain and Sea Hotel. After the last couple of nights, we are happy, happy, happy to be in this hotel.
After settling down and settling in, we went out by the pool. It was too cold for me so I buried my nose in a book while Justin swam. Then it was time to explore. As we wandered, we found a Japanese restaurant for dinner. YUMM! Eggplant scored and topped with miso mixed with teriyaki and sesame then grilled. Yummy.
We are still off the beaten track, but not near as far as we were yesterday. After dinner, we were about a twenty minute walk home. Justin was a bit tired since he had done laps in the pool while I read my book. We looked for a Tok-tuk and instead found a night market. That led us a bit farther from home but it was an opportunity we couldn’t pass.
When we were ready to head home, we hailed what we thought was a tuk-tuk but ended up being a lady whose side car was loaded with produce. She waived down two guys on motorcycles and they brought us home. Yes, we rode on the back of motorcycles. No, we didn’t have helmets. Yes, we lived to tell the story. And I am 60-what years old!?!?
