Monday, 18 October 2021: Merida

We extended another night at the Hotel Zar. This allowed us time to look for a car. We walked around to visit several car sales places.  It was hot.  Hotter than in Green Bay all summer.  I guess we will get used to that, but by then it will be cooling off.

We found a cute new place for lunch, Tabom.  They claim to be a health food restaurant; we were pleased.  I had a chicken “sandwich” where the bread was made of grilled pineapple.  Yummy!!!

We went to Boston’s yesterday for the noon game against the Bears. Just like at La Negrita, the menu is all online. We met Brian from Oregon who was proudly wearing a Brett Favre jersey.  He said he got interviewed by DODEA but didn’t want to go to Korea.  His loss, right?  He’s in Merida on a two-year contract working at an international school as a secondary social studies teacher.

Everyone here is wearing masks.  Everyone!  Hand sanitizer is offered and temperature taken when you enter every store or restaurant. Online menus are accessed through QR codes. I remember that I had a naval officer friend try to explain to me the different perspectives that could account for the misleading and conflicting info we receive regarding nuclear power.  He said that while the Navy looks at nukes as energy, the Army and Air Force look at it is weaponry,
and the Med Group looks at it as therapeutic.  Guess that means the rest of us look at it as cotton candy?  Bottom line is that all of these arguments are legit.  I’d like to hear a different view on masks or social distancing that was not political and made sense.  I’ll wait.
