Tuesday, 11 February 2020: Casa Colibri

The most important thing to do today is to get ready to go to Cuba.  The really most important thing to do today is to prepare our ballots so we can ask Tom to mail them.  A few weeks ago I submitted our requests to receive our ballots electronically.  Justin got his right away but I had to call the good folks at the Travis County Clerks office to chase mine down. Perhaps the message got routed to my spam but they were able to send it again electronically.  I understand that quite a few states have the capacity to accept actual ballots electronically but not so in Texas.  We stopped by the American Consulate in Merida a few weeks ago and learned we could drop our ballots off with them.  There, they’d be added to the diplomatic pouch and mailed from within the US.  That’s an option for us but, even better still, Tom will be our courier and take our ballots back for us.

Justin and I haven’t been on a vacation trip like this is a while.  We will leave Gemma in Abraham’s capable hands.  I’ve asked him to hug on her occasionally.  We’ve reminisced lately about leaving her with Brittany, her baby sitter in Germany.  When she was there, she was often with Jaxon, Mimi’s shitzu.  Here she will be with all the house dogs and now that we’ve added Max to the mix she sure won’t be lonely, but I want him to hug on her any way.

Tom and his people will be gone before we get back.  We were comfortable with  leaving them alone since two of them have been here before and, our trip was already booked before Tom contacted us about coming for a visit.  Robin and Evan will be fine on their own.  And, of course Abraham is here to oversee everything.  We are so, so fortunate.
