Thursday, 11 January 2019: Celestún

We started our day with breakfast in the hotel with Mimi.  She had online meetings from 8 until 11 so we went to run more errands.  We checked out of the hotel and started looking for our kitchen sink.  I’d looked on line everywhere I could think and there was no way we could retrace our steps.  I was willing to settle for one we’d seen at Home Depot.  We went a couple of places and then remembered Boxito.  We saw it at the first store but they didn’t have it in stock.  On to the second and Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner, we have a sink.  We got a few other items (which really reads that the car was full again) and headed to Pedro.

After the next experience, we knew we were in Mexico.

As we got to Pedro's shop, Justin slowed down to park.  As he slowed and pulled over in

to the right lane to park at the curb, we heard a strange noise behind us and realized a motor cycle was down in the road.  At first I thought we might have touched it knocking it over but then, I knew we would have felt that with the car.  We didn't feel anything.  We pulled over to the curb at Pedro's and parked.  When we got out of the car we saw a guy down in the street!  I walked around the car and saw no scratches, old or new, and nothing that indicated any kind of connection.  A crowd was beginning to gather so we went inside Pedro's shop.  A few minutes later a policeman was at the door asking for Justin.  He went with the cop and Pedro went to help interpret.  While an ambulance came and treated the guy in the street (they didn't transport him away), they took all Justin's info, pictures of our car, etc.

Who knows what really happened and who knows what was said -- but we have Teas plates.   At Pedro's suggestion, I placed 2,000 MXP inside Pedro's notebook (about $100) which he soon handed to the cop.  (Pedro explained that this was a "beat" cop who helped keep the neighborhood safe.)  Pedro then suggested that we leave the neighborhood "before the experts arrived."  What the heck does that mean?  We left.

Justin needed time to calm down but he was good to drive.  I'd called Mimi earlier to tell her we would be delayed.  She had been exploring in the Centro section in Merida.  We picked up Mimi and headed to Celestun.  We decided to forgo a trip to the grocery store — we will do just fine in the Celestun markets and restaurants.

Back at home, we were able to show off our home.  Mimi was kind enough to share in our enthusiasm.  And I was even more excited because Ivan was there with a few workers.  Don Carlos hadn’t come back.
Our front light connected and burning brilliantly in welcome!
