Happy anniversary! Twelve years!!
From across the river we saw one of the elephants having his morning swim as we borded our boat for the next leg of the journey.
Day two of our Mekong Lovers Cruise:
With a planned departure at 7:45, I’m pleased to say that by 7:53 all passengers and their luggage were out of hotels, down to the “dock”, aboard and sipping coffee. The crew meanwhile had loaded luggage, left the dock and turned this 41 meter boat around. We are on our way to Luang Prabang.
Justin was like a kid at Christmas. He was at the back of the boat taking pictures for hours. I can only image his Facebook posts. Me? I’m taking time to catch up on this blog… and read my next book.

17’ and snow for the next hour in Green Bay. Brrr!
Before lunch we stopped in a local village. This villages claim to fame is whiskey making. It’s 50% alcohol — 100 proof. I’ll bet it doesn’t take much to warm up those too cool evenings. While the men operate the distillery, the women weave silk. Justin selected a piece we will use as a runner and three smaller pieces of embroidery. I’ll figure out some binding and a special place for those. We also got a neutral silk scarf. I thought ‘now I can be French “ plus, silk is one of the traditional gifts for 12th anniversaries. My anniversary scarf!

Back on the boat it was almost time for lunch.
We checked into our hotel in the Old City in Luang Prabeng. After we got settled, we headed out to dinner. It was a mad-house. That's to be expected I guess on New Years Eve... did I mention that it was a madhouse?
Dinner of summer rolls, duck with pineapple and too much wine. Dessert of basque cheese cake and brownie cheesecake. There’s plenty leftover for breakfast.
