“Admin” day. Justin worked on his posts and got all caught up on Packer news. The Vikings beat the Lions. That means we are in the playoffs!!! I’m still floored. I read my book.
We had a late lunch. We’d seen this restaurant our first night here and we wanted to go back. We had Pad See Ew (stir-fried wide rice noodles with fish and soy sauce, green vegetables, and pork. It’s savory, slightly sweet, and smoky from being charred in a hot wok)and Khao Soi (curried soup with chicken and both soft and crunchy noodles). We learned how to make both of these in our cooking class but I wanted to have them one more time in northern Thailand.
Of course we had to get a temple in today. We went to Wat Mung Muang temple. This temple is quite ornate and so few people were there … it was great. I did a bit more research when I got home and learned that the temple predates the founding of the city of Chiang Rai and that the Buddha statue is at least 600 years old. The temple is considered “a survivor.” In what can be seen as a miracle, the temple (and the Buddha) emerged safely from World War II, when the city was bombed and eight grenades fell into the temple but none exploded!
We wandered through another night market. They are everywhere. I wonder if anyone cooks at home. These markets really are the grocery stores.
Later, we thought about going to another flower show.
We thought about having another massage.
We thought about finding a fun little bar and hanging out for a while.
Instead of all that, we headed back to our hotel for an early evening and the bottle of wine that was waiting there.
