Friday, 30 June 2023: Mancos, Colorado

It took us almost the entire morning to leave the Grand Canyon Park.  We stopped at almost every single scenic lookout spot.

Lipan Point was one of my favorite spots today.  This is one of the widest points along the south rim and offers the longest view of the Colorado River below.  How many different ways can one say “WOW?”

We drove past Four Corners (our national parks pass won’t work here because it is on tribal lands) and on to Mesa Verde National Park.  We got to see some evidence of cave dwellings but we weren’t able to stay too long.  I was convinced we would be trapped inside the park and need to spend the night in the car.  I was more interested in our hotel bed.  We pulled into Mancos about 9pm just in time to catch some live music and homemade tamales from a food truck. The best food we’ve had in a week. I so resent spending good money on crappy food and we’ve had some crappy food lately.   We spent $11 on cheese curds the other day as it was the only cheese we could find. Salad from a convenience store served as dinner one evening.  We’ve had Phenomenal scenery and landscapes but less that satisfaction in the food department.

Words simply can’t describe the magnificent beauty of this land.
