Monday, 9 October 2023: Green Bay

Indigenous Peoples Day   Who was Columbus?  The students in Alvin have a holiday today for the Brazoria County Fair.  Meanwhile, in the rest of the world, Hamas attacks Israel and the war continues in Ukrainian.

There was a frost warning last night here in Green Bay and there are no black eyed peas at Pick n Save.  Several years ago I was not really surprised when I couldn’t find grits at Marchant’s Grocery Store in Brussels, but black eyed peas?  What next?

Deb and Rick Blommer are demolishing the Rollohome and building new. Justin is just sick about the granite.  We know we want to get the Shoji doors from the front bedroom and I know I want the range.  Deb had said they will be out next Monday afternoon and we can take anything.  I’m going to find a moving crew to help us.

Thursday, 28 September 2023: Green Bay

We need to buy a refrigerator for Abraham.  I don’t want him to have to wait until we are there.

I keep an ongoing list of preparing to heading south.  This year I printed it a put in on the refrigerator. It is formidable.

I’m getting back into the sewing groove.  I decided to make a cover for the captains chair from the old deck cushion fabric.  I tried my hand at making a pattern and we won’t know how close I was until next spring.  Meanwhile, I am getting to know my new machine and this type of sewing.  The instructional videos on the Sailrite website are phenomenal.  I am truly impressed.  I thought I’d screwed up with something as simple as winding a bobbin but after watching the video, we were back in business.  The videos are a bit of a rabbit hole as one leads to four more, but I like it just fine.

Our solar project has turned into a bit of a mess.  The financing was complete 20 March.  The first installation was scheduled for 17 May.  Today they switched out the box and it’s still not complete as they also must switch out the box in the garage. Justin’s been asking about the garage since we started. Today, the electrical inspector from WPS said “hey, y’all are going to need to switch out that box.” Duh!  They've totally screwed up the side of the house with no conversation and no regard for the siding and we’ve missed prime sunshine from the summer…we wait.

Dellene is cleaning out her closet getting ready to retire. She will simply thrive in retirement. I can’t wait for her to come to this side!

Justin has decided we need a new car. He doesn’t feel comfortable taking our car with 106,000 miles into Mexico and back so now we are shopping.

Met our friends at Paradise North Distillery and then the game… so sad. Packers 20 - Lions 24. It was not necessarily a “heartbreaker” as they were never in the game.

Sunday, 25 September 2023: Lambeau Field

Its all about football this time of year.  Justin and I went to the local high school 's game this week and it was their homecoming.  What's more, their mascot is the Red Devils.  Lots of walks down memory lane for me!

Today, 78,000 people are in Lambeau field today for Jordan Love’s first game in Lambeau Field  as QB1.  We met Kelli, Carl, Kelly and Greg for tailgating before the game.  The spanakopita I made was a hit.

Justin's behavior gained the attention of the Green Bay Police at one point.  Yep, we made a memory.

Monday, 18 September 2023: Hartung

Sushi for dinner and then for dessert — Marion Burros' plum torte!  It is the NYT’s most requested recipe of all time.  Our was delish!

We picked up our rings from June and Bob.  It’s so nice to have my friend back.  I had plans for an anniversary band.  June made a wax rendition but I didn’t like the look…dang.

Jordan took a spill on a skateboard and broke his arm.  Justin took him to his appointment today. He’ll be out of work for several weeks.

Tomatoes!! Oh, yes, we have tomatoes.

 Sunday, 17 September 2023: Hartung

We drove all night; we wanted to be home and we wanted to be home for football.  Packers fell to the Falcons but we move on.

After a short week of shutting things down, we were finally done.  Last year Roger tarped in the rain/snow. This year, since it was the first time Justin had done it, of course he saw more things that needed to be done.  Next year will go more smoothly.  One of the highlights of the week was a cute kid from our marina who said our dog was adorable.  Of course, I’ll agree but this kid was just so cute.  He had no front teeth and when he said “adorable,” I melted.

Monday, 11 September 2023: White Lake

 We remember.

We pulled Purr at 8am this morning. We weren’t sure where to go but we found it after only a tad bit of drama added to the stinking torrential rains. At least it isn’t too cold and it’s not windy. Now we need to tarp and get stuff off the boat and into the car.

Steven arrived in Grand Rapids today at 3:30. We were at the airport to pick him up. He’ll drive the box truck back to North Carolina. I’m happy to have the truck gone; I don’t need to lose points with the good folks here at this marina because of Stephen’s truck. He was down and asked us not to send him home.  My heart just breaks for him.

Sunday, 10 September 2023: Montague

The beginning of the Jordan Love era.  Packers vs Bears at Soldier Field in Chicago is the NFL game of the week.  We won!  38-20. Yea!!!!!

I was texting with Rodolpho during the game and we shared a few photos with the crew in Merida.

We found dinosaur eggs during a walk!

We came to Montague on Friday for our last trip of this season.  We will pull the boat tomorrow and next year we will allow at least three or four days just for that.  This year, we bit off painting the settee as well as getting ready for winter.” Whatever were we thinking?!?!  But doesn’t it just look great.  It will be nice to walk into that completed in the spring.
