Tuesday, 10 April 2018: Alvin at Uncle Harold’s

We’d been in Alvin for the past few days visiting with Uncle Harold.  Charlsy was in Fourney visiting her daughter and grandkids so it was just us with Uncle Harold.  One afternoon we headed out to go to Johnson Space Center (I’ve never been there.) but we went to the outlet mall and got distracted and never made it there.  A few days ago we had lunch with Bill and Diana.  They've made tremendous progress on their house.  After the devastation of Harvey, they are slowly rebuilding.  Upon hearing about our adventures on Flipped Out, Diana wanted to know what had happened to her friend Paula.  I would say her fears were calmed when she learned I just bought three pair of shoes in one trip.  I cooked dinner a few times and one evening Hal and Will joined us.  Chami was in Thailand visiting her ailing father. Justin and I had had plenty of Fox News by the time we loaded up the car said farewell to uncle Harold. How do you get ten pounds of stuff in a five pound bag?  Just ask Justin as it took him a couple of hours just to load the car.

En route, we checked to learn that our TSP withdrawal request had been declined because the paperwork wasn't accurate.  I joined the public library in Victoria so I could use their computer.  Add this to my memberships in Brown County (Green Bay), Greendale (near Erich and Holly) and Brownsville, I am getting quite the collection of library cards.  We filled out new papers ,got them notarized and faxed from the local UPS office.  Now we wait again.

We ate barbecue at Mac’s for dinner.  It isn’t as good as City Market in Luling or Joe’s in Alvin but pretty darn good for Rockport.

After a ride on the ferry from Aransas Pass to Port Aransas (the ferry is free as it is part of the Texas highway system) we checked into the Shark Reef Resort Motel and Cottages in Port Aransas.  When checking in I chatted with the owner first asking her the number of rooms and the software she used for her hotel.  She said “Check In” but it was expensive, $400each year.  More conversation and I learned she was from Madison, Wisconsin!  What a hoot!  She gave us an upgrade to a cute little casita that was huge.  A separate bedroom, living room with a full kitchen, two TVs and we only paid $10 extra for Gemma.
