Friday, 13 April 2018: New Orleans

Justin's new sound mixing career?
We checked out of our cute little hotel at the last moment (11am) and headed to the Festival.  This year is the 35th year for the French Quarter Festival and the 300th anniversary for New Orleans.  How fortuitous to be here just at this time!  Stephen had been told that the Tall Ships Festival was also going on at this time but that is next weekend.  Drat.  The food was delicious and the music was the best.  We saw dozens of street performers and groups on at least a half dozen stages at Woldenberg Park and in Jackson Square.  We checked out some of the local food — corn and crawfish fritters, Mac and cheese with crawfish and a jerk chicken with steamed vegetables.  Of course, I had beignets.  I had a few margaritas and Justin had a few (too many) “hand grenades”.  I could have stayed here at least three more days.

After wearing shorts and flipflops all winter,
even here in NOLA, it was too cold.

We collected our luggage, our car and our dog a bit after 4pm and then went to the boat to meet Stephen and Barbie for dinner.  We all headed to a BBQ place Stephen found earlier in the week —The Joint.  The food was fabulous!  I had brisket and Justin had ribs.  We’d definitely place this BBQ close to that from Luling... and that is the best on the planet.  After a fabulous meal we drove to Baton Rouge.  The weather in Green Bay is still too cold to go home.  Randy seems to be doing a bit better now but we still might need to make a dash home.  Justin stays in close contact with Jordan to keep up to date.  We keep Randy in our prayers.

Stephen thought he'd offer a fish fry for dinner
 ... maybe not!
