Friday, 20 June 2025: Green Bay

Today, summer solstice, finds us at John’s house in Menominee Michigan.  Who is John?  Justin bought a 27’ PayShip sailboat.  He says this is a boat just for this summer, so we shall see.  Purr is on the hard and we will not launch her this summer while Justin gets some repairs completed.

We are still living in the car world.  Still looking for a car.  Justin would be fine and happy with two all electric vehicles and I would not.  I’ve experienced range anxiety and I’m not willing to go there again and again.  We just don’t have the infrastructure that we need to go green.

We spend some stolen time working on Nancy’s farm. We come home laden with asparagus, rhubarb, spinach and chicken and duck eggs (even pullet eggs).  A couple of weeks ago she gave us brats. Please don’t tell her we left the in the car overnight. I wasn’t saddened at all but Justin was disappointed.  Last week she gave us pickled eggs and spicy asparagus.  One day we were there while they were re-locating ducks  What a hoot!

I was cleaning and rearranging some shelves in her “store” (it was rainy and cold outside and Justin was picking asparagus) when a lady came in to buy eggs.  She also bought one bunch of asparagus.  I encouraged her to buy more.  She replied “ oh, no.  We had asparagus last week and with this one, that’s enough.  My husband would kille me if I bought more.”  And I’m thinking, during asparagus season, my husband is happy with asparagus morning, noon and night… and some for the freezer too!

We’ve been to farmers market a couple of times but not many things are available that we can’t get from Nancy.

Price's pimento cheese has always been my favorite.  And, I found it at Woodman's grocery store!  In Wisconsin!  And, what else but Black cherry jello..  There's definitely cherry coke salad in my future.  My dreams are coming true!

We finally got the shoji out of the basement and upstairs in the window!  Installed and new shoji.  What a difference!  I bought shoji paper and glue from an on-line site.  That $180 was a bit more than I might have spent in Japan.

Visit from Jason to see about new kitchen cabinets.  Goodness knows we need them.

Abraham sent pictures of the dogs.  Everybody looks happy.

Justin bought an electro outboard motor - Remingo.  I’m sewing a cover for storage. This project is a bit more manageable that the cover for Purr.  We’ve been on a handful of canoe rides in the East River.   Right now, that canoe is my favorite boat because that’s the one we are using.

Justin has been working in the gardens.  He finally planted five tomato plants before we left yesterday to come to Michigan.

With Mary’s inspiration I’m living in the Sourdough world.
