We are home — well, sort of.
We left Celestún on Tuesday as planned and even sort of on time since we were well before noon. After a short 5-6 hour drive we settled into our digs at La Venta Inn in Ciudad del Carmen. Day two was a beast of a drive into Puebla (we did not arrive before dark) before we zonked out in the Staybridge Suites. Mornings take a bit longer as we need to give the dogs time to eat and I have to torture Gemma to get her meds down her gullet. She and I make up and are friends again later in the morning when she curls up in my lap.
For day three we opted for a no-tell motel in Matahuala, Motel. (We did pay for twelve hours.).
Night #1 was about $150. We paid more for the two dogs than we did for the hotel room. Night #2 was also $150 and we snuck Gemma in inside her canvas duffle. Last night I said screw it, I’m not spending that kind of money again so we opted for a very convenient and more than marginally acceptable alternative for $30 where all four of us were legal. We even paid the 200 peso deposit for the tv remote control and I logged us into Netflix.
Tonight finds us in Laredo in the good ‘ol’ U S of A in our Motel 6 Norte where we spent too much time in November. Tomorrow we will roll into Dellene’s in Austin. Her kids are hosting a retirement party Saturday afternoon and we will be there just in time.
We got two more puppies right before we left -- Yoda and Cannello are littler mates and they are barely one month old. We will take Soxx with us to Wisconsin since Erich has decided he needs a Mexican beach dog. Gemma and Soxx made for great traveling companions.
