Sunday, 25 February 2023: Sandra's house

 It is hot!

It is stinking hot!

Robert hosted a concert this evening.    He started with Simon and Garfunkel's The Sound of Silence and then floated into the dance of the Sugarplum Fairy.  I recognized a few of his classical pieces but none of the contemporary pieces.  He is very confident and his playing is commendable.  We will see what next year brings since he wants to play guitar next.

Sunday, 2 April 2023: Hartung

It was 35’ when we left Bloomington this morning.  After being on the road for just over three weeks, we will be in our own bed on Hartung street tonight.

Justin got his electronic signature.  No one else understands the magnitude of that.  We had a basically uneventful trip back to Texas where we bid farewell to Yurig and Irene before we unpacked treasures and began to set up the house for mid-term furnished rentals.

Dellene and I shared some quality time but it is always too short.  Gemma got to meet Sister; she would be a good influence on Sister if they soent more time socializing.  Mike is rather nervous about Sister being around other dogs.

Cate will host an open house today at Winter.  I’m confident that the house will sell quickly.  Since we’ve been all over the place (there’s a surprise)… when it sells, we will figure out what’s next.

We had a little fender bender on I35 in Roundrock.  Thankfully, the word little was in that last sentence.  Later, when filing the insurance claim, I could precisely identify our location -- right by Ikea.

The bluebonnets were lush this year.  Seeing the wildflowers was an added bonus for me this year, and the color was fabulous.  Just thinking about it brings a smile to my face.

We stopped in Milwaukee to see Eric and the kids.  Mandi was there and made a feast of a breakfast for us all. Scrambled eggs, bacon, doughnuts, fruit.  Eric and Justin had some quality time.  Later, Mike and Eli came to visit too.  It was a banner day for the Miller boys!

We rolled into Green Bay and our little house on the river about 6:15pm. Throughout the trip north the landscape changed from springtime to winter.  Yes, there was white stuff on the ground in our yard.  I don’t want to even utter the word.

Tuesday, 28 March 2021: Winter Drive

We put in an offer on 313 Essex yesterday, contingent on the sale of 221 Winter

We will sign the papers to put 221 Winter Drive on the market today.  Cate Johnston from Keller Williams will be our realtor…she is such a dear.

After owning this house for 16 years, we’ve been able to spend some time here and it’s just not working.  Despite the cute armadillo that is living in the back yard, the two streets just don’t offer any privacy.  Gemma took herself on a walk across Texas Avenue and it scared the shit out of me.  We’d said that to buy anything, the property would need to be perfect.  The house on Essex isn’t perfect but it is a good idea.

Wednesday, 23 March 2023: Winter Drive

Our goal for Sunday was to prepare for Eduardo.  He showed up right on time on Monday morning.  I've decided it probably isn’t a good idea for me to spend time in this house because I really like it.

We also went to a few open houses and we met Cate from Keller Williams.  She made a great first impression.

We met with Amanda from Freedom Realty today.  Amanda will be our property manager for our mid-term rental.  The Stacy Group has been in that role from the beginning but since they charge 15%, Freedom Realty’s 7% is much more appealing.

We spent a lot of time cleaning and putzing before we met Dellene and Mike at the French Quarter Grill for dinner.  Great food!  We will go back there!
For another day:  the owner suggests we check out Jacqueimos in NOLA.  Ok, we can do that!

Saturday, 18 March 2023: Millway Drive and Winter Drive

Dellene came home late last night. Her flight had been delayed but they caught their connection in Ft Lauderdale.  Chris didn’t have his luggage though. Stories of the 14 people trip will keep us all busy for days.  Time to catch up.

Jordan and Erich went to Hartung to take a branch off a tree in the backyard.

The limb was curled up, around and back and the branch was in the way of just about everything we wanted to do. The weather channel reported 20’ and winds gusting up to 20 mph. No thank you!

Dellene had a date with Mike so Justin and I headed to Georgetown. Well, really, to Lowes and Home Depot.  We need to buy light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, and appliances for the kitchen.

We found a great Greek restaurant in La Frontera; Zorba’s.  Yummy!  We ordered way too much food but we will have some delicious leftovers.

With borrowed sheets and towels from Dellene and a new coffee pot from Walmart, we set up the air mattress.  I’ve owned this house since 2006 and this is the first night we’ve slept in it.

Thursday, 15 March 2023: Winter Drive

We bid farewell to Yuri and Irene. We took them a loaf of banana bread for the road.

Looked at other houses in the neighborhood.

I really like this house; I really like the treasures we have stored in the garage. I sure don’t want to pay capital gains taxes on the proceeds from the sale of the house. Even more I don’t want to get that phone call in the middle of July letting me know the AC has gone out.

We met with Judy, a real estate agent from the Stacy group. She was quite negative.  I wasn’t very impressed.

I saw Aunt Judy in HEB!  Oh my goodness. I saw that a lady had dropped a piece of produce. When it rolled toward me I picked it up and handed it back to her. She said ”it wanted to go home with you.”  She was my Aunt Judy — same petite body, same perfect hair, same animal print top and ballet flats. Same warm smile. I had tears in my eyes when I told Justin about it. I just needed to take a moment.
