Monday, 26 September 2022: Hartung

After 5 nights on Purr we drove back to Green Bay. We left about 2am still hit Chicago rush hours at 6:40. I do better driving in stop-and-go traffic than Justin does so we’d made sure to coordinate our shifts.

For this trip on Purr, we pulled up the carpet and got the first coat of paint down on the floor. We are making progress and it looks so much better.

Home in time to receive my new KitchenAid mixer!!! Justin found a red one that had my name on it.  That means I'll take the white one to Mexico.

Monday, 19 September 2022: in front of the TV

My day started rather early.  I guess I'd rather remember getting up early to watch a royal wedding rather than remembering watching Queen Elizabeth II funeral.  I truly enjoyed looking at all the pictures of her throughout her reign.  This is indeed a historic moment.

We've got all kinds of zucchini so it is zucchini morning, noon and night almost.  Last week a made this zucchini and yellow squash spiral.  Studded with tomatoes and held together with mozzarella, it was almost too pretty to eat.

The shed before and the shed coming down.

Even Mr. Squirrel is getting ready for winter.

Sunday, 18 September 2022: Lambeau Field

Game against Bears at Lambeau.  Were we there?  Oh hell Yeah!!

Thursday, 15 September 2022: Hartung in the driveway

Justin had contacted the good folks at Sure-Dry to get our driveway leveled and resurfaced.  They showed up today and said "no deal."  We were torqued.  Seems the salesman who came out earlier has a knack for overselling his product then when the guys show up who actually do the work... not a pretty picture.

Paradise North Distillery is right by South Bay Marina where Kelly and Carl keep their boat.  On Thursdays they introduce their drink of the week. This week’s offering was a Daiquiri flight — classic, coconut, passion fruit and chocolate coconut.  Justin and I drowned our sorrows in that flight and then we went on to real drinks.  I had a real Cherry Bounce and Justin had a Gin basil sour.  We just missed Kelly and Carl so we had to drink alone.    I was a hardship.

We had a new friend so up in the garden.  That kept us entertained for a minute or three.

Thursday, 1 September 2022: Hartung

Today was out first day back at Hurting -- our first day home.  And, my goodness...do we have tomatoes!

We needed to unpack and get laundry going but we were ready to enjoy some tomatoes.  I'd earmarked a  New York Times Tomato and feta salad so that was out feast for today!  It was worth the wait.

"Mr. Hawk decided to hunt from our deck this morning." (Justin's post to Facebook.)    We weren't confident on what type but we were fascinated to watch him since he stayed on the deck for at least 25 minutes!

Bicycle, bicycle, bicycleI want to ride my bicycle ... Freddie Mercury running through your mind now?
My birthday present had been delivered while we were away -- a new e-bike.  It is advertised as "For able, foldable, fun".  Here I go!  Yep, I still need to buy a helmet.

Tuesday, 13 September 2022: Hartung

I talked to Mary today.  I sure do need to talk to her more often.
Justin took down the shed today.  He is biting off a big chore to complete before we leave.  Here we go.

Sunday, 28 August 2022:White Lake aboard Purr

We had a front row seat for the first local Float-a-Poluzza.  They are trying to break the Guinness record of over 2,000 canoes and kayaks. With just over 200 entries, they know it might take a couple of years to get the numbers up, but they are trying.
We woke up this morning to the organizers setting buoys and markers. Floaters started showing up around 1pm. Dina joined us for Bloody Mary’s as we watched Joe and Joel wrestle to set the anchor for Joel’s boat. What a mess -- we refrained from laughing out loud.  A guy from channel 13 news in Grand Rapids felt like the back of our boat was a great spot to chat with folks as they headed in.  A couple of drones came at 2pm and the crowd started to dissipate as the clouds rolled in.   Is wasn’t exactly like seeing the start of the Tour de France but it was pretty cool for a Sunday in Montague.

Saturday, 27 August 2022: Pentwater

Justin groomed Gemma and I watched videos on how to make window coverings for the boat.

Lunch in another small Michigan town -- New Era; the restaurant was called The Artisan. I've been inspired to make tomato basil bisque when we get back to Green Bay.

Our plan for the day was to go to the Wooden boat show in Pentwater.  We got there just in time to wave to Roger and Pat as they passed by in the parade. Justin and I had settled in with an adult beverage at the Pentwater Yacht  Club to watch the vintage boats go by.  Justin was not doodling, but he was close.

We met Tom and Sarah and the rest of the crew from our marina at Snug Harbor Marina.  We walked around town with them for a while and foud a fabulous shop where they were making chocolates.  Dark and milk chocolate turtles sure caught my eye.   We’d passed on the chance to be sailing with them … we are not ready.

Thursday, 25 August 2022: aboard Purr

Yesterday we went to Oh Brothers for a late lunch.  They have an interesting menu that it a bit different from so many of the other restaurants around that a all seem to have the same thing.  I had a walleye Rueben and it was yummy.  Justin had pulled pork with potatoes and a Ceasar salad.

Today, we continued our task of making Montague our own and went to The Homestead for breakfast.  Initially I’d seen chicken and waffles on the menu but then I learned it was no longer offered.  Even though my breakfast burrito was quite good, they still lost points on the chicken and waffles.

We went out for a sunset cruise.  Earlier in the week I’d found a couple of bottles of Montapulciano de Abruzo at Montague Foods.  We’d planned on enjoying one this evening but after a few good sized waves that had been kicked up when a large boat passed by rather quickly, well, the kitchen looked like a slash-rama was being filmed.  I made an unplanned run to Walmart to buy salt so ideally we will have a mound of pink salt on the carpet in the kitchen in the morning.

Justin and I finished Jane the Virgin before we left Green Bay.  We also finished The Blacklist and last night we finished The Umbrella Academy.  That means all we are watching right now is All American.  Way
too much TV, but hey...no one has Covid.

Justin caulking earlier in the week.

Saturday, 20 August 2022: Shelby, MI

Gemma fell in the lake.  well, that was a way to start the day.  Justin boarded Claude's boat next to us and got her out from then since he is much lower than we are.  Me?  I just panicked.

Breakfast at Deb’s CafĂ© in Shelby, MI.  Shelby is about a 30 minute drive from our boat and well worth it!  Yummy!  They have a cinnamon roll breakfast sandwich that is delish.  That perfect combination of sweet and savory.  And, its big enough to serve a small family.

I got caught in the quicksand of videos on boat restoration.  That took too much time.  When we went for a drive we tried to find the corn stand again.  Who knew Michigan had such phenomenal produce.  No corn today but instead we found  asparagus, apples, pears and even a Blueberry farm.

White Lake Club sponsored a fish boil.  Justin spent his $20 to support their cause.  Me?  I passed.
