Friday. 12 July 2024: Sheboygan

It was only 7:45 am and we were at Van Horn in Sheboygan to get the second key for our car.  Yes, we’ve been operating with only one…scary and very, very risky given our propensity to misplace important items.  Jordan Permuda provided us with the word of the season —  “prudent” — he was referring to the exorbitant cost of switching the boat over to solar but I’d say it will be prudent of us to have two keys.  Totally appropriate in oh so many situations.

With two keys in hand we were on our way to the boat.

As soon as we got back to the boat, Justin got busy working with epoxy.  Another saying that became used and overused was “eat more hummus” since the empty containers are the perfect size for mixing epoxy.

We found that we were still in a pickle with Brian for a slip.  Piernicks had a slip but it was too small for us.  Jim and Julie Smith also have a too small slip.  We offered to secure one of those for Brian but since he didn’t have a boat and didn’t know what he was going to buy, we were caught.  Elaine and Dale from Crosswinds Marina had slip #3 available; they never rent this slip that they describe as “the roughest slip in the Marina”.  We later found out that it was considered rough since it catches the brunt wind from across the lake.  That one is available to us so at least we don’t have to end our season just yet.

We spent the last week or so in demo mode.  We put up a tarp across the boom and that really helped with sun and rain.  Justin got up to his ears in epoxy projects mostly on the boards that cover the bilges.  I checked out of cooking mostly on this trip.

Justin went salmon fishing with Claude.  They didn’t catch anything but Claude did catch quite a few the next day and he shared some of the spoils.  Cleaned, filleted and ready for the freezer — now that is how I like to have fish in my house.
