Monday, 22 January 2024: Celestun

Happy birthday to Lisa. I guess one has to be 60+ years old to say they’ve had a friend for as long as Lisa and I have been friends.  It’s been a long time since we shared the actual day together but we definitely share our birthdays.

Today is the 51st anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision in Roe v. Wade.

More recently the Supreme Court has worked to dismantle fundamental rights for women. Human rights not just women’s rights. I don’t consider myself too politically aware but I am definitely Pro Child, Pro Family and Pro Choice. Let’s get this right.

We found a water filter. It was at a store we both remembered from a couple of years ago.  If someone had heard Justin and I talking about the store or how to get there, they might never have known we were talking about the same place, but thankfully we found it.  I told Kellie I didn’t want anything new or fancy; I wanted something that would work… always.

Lots of Packer activities this month with the gang from Boston's.

Now just how often do you see a pig walking down the middle of the street?

Found a new restaurant near centro --

The owner has another venue we will want to check out -- Chowak Xikin

Flamingoes!  Flamingoes!  Flamingoes!

Wednesday, 31 January 2024: Hacienda Santa Rosa

Happy Birthday to Justin!!

Lunch at Hacienda Santa Rosa was delightful.

For one day when I get ready to do some stenciling.

Sunday, 28 January 2024: Casa Colibri

Rodolfo’s biker friends were meeting up in Celestun today.  They left from Merida this morning, came to Celestun for breakfast and then we’re heading back to Merida.  For about ten seconds I considered breakfast for thirty and then common sense prevailed.  Instead there was only Kelli, Carl, Kelly, Scott, Justin, Abraham and me.  Rudolfo, girlfriend Ruth, and friend Santiago spent the night but they were on their way this morning.  The weather promised a great ride.

Breakfast menu:  Spinach and Gouda overnight egg casserole, Fruit,  Coffee cake.

Gustos couldn’t come to our party and he brought a fish.  Not the best hostess gift ever — I didn’t even want it in my kitchen.  Jona, who exclaimed that is was a very good fish indeed, was happy to take it home for he and Neli.

Thursday 25 January 2024: Casa Colibri

Kelli lived in Progresso when she went to college in Merida.  One of the biggest things on her lists of things to do during this trip was a walk down memory lane.  We did just that.  It was great to see the beach town through her eyes from thirty something years ago.  She even found the house she had lived in when she lived here as a a student.

Wednesday, 24 January 2024: Hacienda Inn in Mérida

An all too typical day at Casa Colibri:

— Ismael and Esteban arrived to install the mirror (We just ordered it this weekend.  How cool is that!)

— Neli arrived to clean

— Ivan arrived to work on Abraham’s bathroom

— Hugo arrived to continue work on the garage.

The humongous project for this week was to secure "our guy" into the side of the garage.  Watching our workers move the stone, hoist it up and secure it so they could do their masonry magic was something.  No bones were broken, no fingers or toes were lost in the completion of this task.

What was special about today was that Kelli and Carl were arriving!

I prepared lunch yesterday so that left me to do small meddlesome tasks and pack.

Justin and I left to go to Merida.  The flight left from Houston a bit late but arrived in Merida a bit early.  It reminded me of the Seinfeld bit about making up time.

First stop for the tourists, the ATM machine!

Sunday, 31 December 2023: Merida

Happy anniversary to us!  Ten years!

Nice lazy morning in our hotel before we packed up to go to the Hyatt Regency in the Centro.  We got there in plenty of time to take a carriage ride to La Negrita.  We met Jesus and got him all lined up to play at Justin’s intermittently annual non-birthday party.  This year that will be 27 January.  We didn’t get to hear him play because we needed to leave in time to get back to our hotel for 7pm kickoff — Packers vs. Vikings.  Now, I wouldn’t give up my anniversary dinner for just any game, but against the Vikings?  Yep, today was all about football. And how nice it was to have them arrange this game on our anniversary!    Thankfully, Packers came out on top — 33-10. Next week, The Bears, at home.
