Sunday, 25 January 2026: Hue

This morning I enjoyed probably the best eggs I’ve had in a month.  It was called an omelet, but it really was just veggies and eggs cooked on one side in a small skillet, but not rolled into an omelet.  I think everyone in South East Asia, and in Mexico for that matter, over cooks eggs.  The ones today were shiny and moist.   Delicious!

Justin went out to explore. We will stay in Hue a little bit longer and he wanted to check our hotel options. Even though we ended up staying in the same hotel, his excursion was successful since he found some great restaurant options.

Next, off to the citadel and the old imperial palace.

Palaces, temples and gardens … oh, my!!!

And, how will we get there?  Pedi-cab.

Located in the center of the city, the Hue Imperial Citadel is a massive 19th-century fortress and UNESCO World Heritage site.   The huge Vietnamese flag above can be seen for miles. Building began in 1804; the facility served as the political and ceremonial center for the king.  The entire place is surrounded by a moat (10 kilometers!) but inside there are three separate areas: outer citadel, Imperial City, and Forbidden Purple City, once the Emperor’s residence and now in ruins.  Very few of the 160 original buildings survived the 1968 Tet offensive and restoration efforts are obvious.

Dinner at a great place… Garden something… my brain is shot..
